Courses & Projects at SOLeSpaces Vienna

Rethinking how we Learn

For the first time, knowledge is truly free and resources are endless, even whole courses are available (MOOCS). Nowadays, we need focus, teamwork, and structure. So let’s define projects with a beginning and an end. Let’s create a marketplace for projects. And let’s find a system that appeals to our core drivers.
For this, we have created a platform for courses, a methodology to create our own courses, and a space to meet in. Yes, we believe in real-life interaction for learning to happen. And we believe in defining a tangible outcome for the end of each project.

Authentic and Inspiring Spaces

In times where knowledge is free, and distractions are everywhere, the space where learning happens and the system/methodology become central.

We rent (or buy) unique spaces in world cities and turn them into self-organised learning spaces.

Think of a space where people go to learn. To party. To help each other out, or to celebrate successes. There’s room where you can focus on your work, a central kitchen that’s always stocked. There’s a workshop / atelier with all required tools for arts and crafting. All of that in an authentic apartment with second-hand furniture which represents the city we’re in. That’s a SoleSpace.

Decentralised (Self-) Organisation

Education should prepare us for the future, but what to do when the future is uncertain? Do we know what skills will be required for future jobs, or even what those jobs will look like?

We can’t use the classic “command-and-control” methods, and should treat SOLeSpaces like living systems that will form their own identity. Vienna may be focused on music, Tel Aviv on entrepreneurship, Amsterdam on the Fine Arts, who knows. It’s the responsibility of the members to shape their surroundings and take care of it.

Luckily, we can use technology to streamline our work and use the Art of Hosting to lead us through the chaordic path; the path between chaos and order.

What we need to create to make it scalable:

A ***handbook*** about the process creating a SOLeSpace.

A ***constitution*** with the first set of rules in a SOLeSpace.

A ***Platform*** where projects are formulated and teams are formed.
